My Master's Thesis was an exploration of inter-generational dynamics within organizations.
While many diversity related projects have been launched in organizations (Typically race, religion, language, sexual orientation, even political affiliation) inter-generational differences have become a critical, under-recognized barrier to optimal organizational performance. With 4, and very soon 5 different generations in organizations (as soon as Gen Alpha joins in 4 years' time) the different approach to the very nature of work's role in a Gen Z professional's life is in stark contrast to the Baby Boomers now entering retirement. This creates misalignment in many ways, but specifically more traditional and hierarchical organizations (Schools, Governmental Organizations, Mid-Size Manufacturing Firms) are grappling with the friction caused by, from my research, a lack of Generational APPECIATION and effective COMMUNICATION.
This presentation explains with facts, humour and examples the basics of Generational Theory, a well-established academic field since the 1930's, as well as the relevance to organizational performance. Expert advice and easy to implement interventions are shared to decrease friction and increase the quality of the communication between generations.
